Panel Discussion On The State Of Texas - 1192 Words

Panel Discussion On April 21st, Dr. Saxe held a panel discussion that lasted an hour and 30 minutes. All type of people that work at the local and state level went there, from people running for different districts to the state representative, Chris Turner. During this panel of discussion, 8 persons had the time to introduce themselves, what they’re running for, and what they would do if they get elected. This was a great day for this class because we had the opportunity to interact with people who holds positions in the state of Texas, giving us another view of how things work in Texas. The candidates presented during this panel discussion were Representative Chris turner, who serves in the higher education committee for district 101. Sheri Capehart, who serves in district 2, all of her sons graduated from Arlington ISD. Kelly Cannon, running for city council, district 1, she is the one involved with taking away the red lights in Arlington. A person running for district seven in favor of online voting, which I believe is ridiculous. Charlie Parker, he’s the district 1 incumbent and an ex-pilot from the navy. Dr. Victoria Myers, she taught political science in UTA but now she is running for district seven, which is responsible by how Arlington looks. John Hibbs, a member of the school district at Arlington, he has served there for 6 years. And last but not least Jamie Sullins, the president of Arlington Independent School District. Anyone vs. Any One How to Choose the Right Word

The indefinite pronoun anyone—used as a single word—refers to any person at all, but not to any particular individual. Any one—used as two words—is an adjective phrase that refers to any single member of a group of either people or things. Any one is commonly followed by the preposition of. A similar distinction applies to anybody vs. any body as well as nobody and no body. The omission or inclusion of the space between the two words makes a difference. Explanations, examples, and usage notes show when to use the terms and how to use them correctly. How to Use Anyone To use anyone correctly, its important to understand that an indefinite pronoun is a  pronoun  that refers to an unspecified or unidentified person or thing. Its vague rather than specific, and it doesnt have an  antecedent. So, anyone refers to any person, but no person in particular. Take the example: Did anyone of you see a lost boy? the frantic mother asked. In this example, a mother is searching for her child, who likely became lost or separated from her in a public place, such as a department store. She is not concerned who responds; she would be grateful if anyone at all, or anybody at all, could recall spotting the missing child. It does not matter who speaks up; anyone will do. How to Use Any One By contrast, any one refers to any single, specific person, such as: Any one of you in my class may choose any one of the books to read. In this example, the first use of any one refers to any single person in the class. In the second use, any one refers to any specific book. Examples Sample sentences can illustrate when to use anyone or any one. One such sentence might read: When I visited the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, I could not decide on any one painting that was my favorite. In this example, the speaker is stating that he is unable to pick any single painting in the world-famous museum that was his favorite. A sentence using anyone as a single word could ask: Does anyone of you have an opinion as to which painting in the Rijksmuseum is the best? After all, many experts say that Rembrandt van Rijns work Night Watch is the best painting at the museum. In this sentence, the speaker—perhaps a tour guide leading a large group—is asking if any person at all in the group (it does not matter who) has an opinion as to the best painting. Another example that uses both terms could read: It does not seem like anyone in the stadium saw the play. Did any one of you see it? In the first use, the speaker is commenting that it is unlikely that any person at all in the stadium (it does not matter who) saw the play. In other words, nobody saw it. In the second sentence of this example, the speaker is likely addressing a smaller group of people, perhaps in a press box or luxury box, and asking if any single person saw it. The implication, here, is that the speaker would like that specific individual to relate to him what happened on that particular play. By contrast, you could say: He never raised a hand to any one of his children. In this case, the father never hit or spanked any single, or individual, one of his children. How to Remember the Difference When trying to distinguish between anyone and any one, simply swap them with a similar word, such as anybody vs. anybody or even antonyms, such as nobody vs. no body. The difference between these words is the same grammatically as the distinction between anyone and any one. So, if you were to say: Does anyone know who first said, You cant trust anybody over 30? Both, anyone and anybody mean the same thing here—anyone and anybody both refer to any person in general, but not a specific person. If you swap them, the sentence still makes sense: Does anybody know who first said, You cant trust anyone over 30? By contrast, if you say: If any one of the 25 barons should die, the remaining barons shall choose a replacement. Clearly, in this sentence, any one refers to any specific, or particular, baron who might die. Replace any one with its antonym, such as no one, and you can still craft a sentence that makes sense: If no one of the barons dies this year, the remaining barons wont need to meet to choose a replacement. In this case, if no one, individual baron dies, the other barons wont have to select a replacement, but if any one of them dies (any single baron), all the other barons will have to meet to make that difficult choice. Physics Physics Of Trigonometry - 1102 Words

The more I study trigonometry, the more it seems like mathematical magic. The relationships between angles and sides that have been uncovered and rewritten as seemingly simple identities are definitely more than meets the eye. I am especially drawn to their all-inclusive nature. It does not matter what the side lengths or angle measurements of the triangle are; the laws of trigonometry are always applicable and accurate. Needless to say, I was quite intrigued when I came across something known as Morley’s Theorem which reads, â€Å"The three points of intersection of the adjacent trisectors of the angles of any triangle form an equilateral triangle† (Bogomolny). Thus I deduced that ∠ A+∠ B+∠ C=Ï€ 3ÃŽ ±+3ÃŽ ²+3ÃŽ ³=Ï€ ÃŽ ±+ÃŽ ²+ÃŽ ³=Ï€/3 The first step in this proof is to find expressions for the side lengths AB, BC, and CA; however, that is a difficult task to accomplish since I am only using variables and no concrete measurements. In order to overcome this challenge, I circumscribed a circle about the triangle with a center O so that the triangle only touches the circle at its three vertices A, B, and C. For the sake of simplicity, I assume that the radius is 1, so that I am able to find the side lengths of the triangle in terms of ÃŽ ±, ÃŽ ², and ÃŽ ³ by applying rules of basic geometry and the cosine rule. According to the Central Angle Theorem, â€Å"the central angle subtended by two points on a circle is twice the inscribed angle subtended by those points† (â€Å"Central Angle†). Carter explains that even the simplest gesture can become a problem. He feels that people are afraid to do anything nice, for fear of it back firing. Everyone is suing everyone, and that has major consequences. Accidents happen, so sometimes you just have to trust that they didn’t mean to hurt you. There are people in this world that do abuse our freedom of speech, like Carter says. Many children (and adults) cuss severely on a day to day basis, and need to understand that language is a key element in what happens next in life. If a person talks foul, then they receive foulness. If you talk nice, however, you receive niceness back. It all depends on how you act and react to things. If we as a whole try to improve our foul mouths and attitude’s, the world would be a happier place. Cussing and acting up in public is very inappropriate and people should respect other people by not doing it or trying to dial it down. Jordan vs. James Essay Jordan vs. JamesMichael Jordan, in his prime, was thought of as one of the greatest basketball champions of all time. A shooting guard, standing at six-six, Jordan was able to out play anyone in his position. He started his career at the University of North Carolina, where he helped his team win a national championship. He then was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in the 1984-85 season. While playing for the Bulls, Jordan received many awards such as, MVP, five championships, Olympic gold medals, slam dunk contests, and many more defensive and offensive awards. Jordan simply dominated the nineties and left the game as a NBA Finals winner in 1998. It was not until the year 2002 that the NBA was able to find someone to match Jordans dazzling acrobatic style of play. His name is Lebron James. Lebron, who plays shooting guard and small forward, stands at an athletic six-eight. James, however, never played in the NCAA. He was drafted straight out of high school in the 2003-04 season, by the Cleveland Cavaliers. James is already on the road to success by achieving co-rookie of the year, and he appeared in the Olympics. James is expected to be a champion, but he may not have what it takes to become a real champion such as Michael Jordan was. Before Jordan or James can be categorized as a champion, they have to be able to handle pressure, fame, and maintain a positive relationship with their team. When Cumbee 2comparing Jordan and James clutch capabilities, or their ability to handle pressure at key times, Jordan has the upper hand. First of all, Jordan won an NCAA championship with a heroic last second shot. To be able to keep compo sure and focus on one shot under those types of conditions is not an easy task. Amazingly, he made clutch shots time and time again for the Bulls. Being able to think and react in highly pressured situations for James on the other hand, has not been accomplished. I have seen James, with the ball in the final seconds of the game, and he was unable to hit the winning shot. You can see the pressure all over his face. He does not have the ability to plan and if necessary, counter plan under extreme conditions. A good example is in this past years Olympics he clearly did not play like a champion. When the team was down, he didnt try to take the game over like a champion would. When looking at Jordan and James fame, they are both equally popular, but it is how they handle the fame that sets them apart. Jordan is a class act, meaning he carries himself with honorable pride, not vanity. After Jordan signed with Nike his game only got better. He never felt as if he was too good for improvement and showed everyone great respect. James differs after he signed with Nike, his game flat-lined. He never showed any kind of improvement in his game, and his team never got any better. It seemed like he only tried when he had the ball, especially when his team was getting blown out. A champion should never be without the support of his teammates. After observing Jordan and James relationship with their teammates, Jordans team proved to Cumbee 3have more chemistry. Jordan was able to make his teammates better by getting them more involved in the game, and they loved him for that. Instead of taking the final shot of the game himself, the Bulls won many games with Jordan assisting the goal. James team, however, does not come together as well. He has not grasped his teams trust. He is trying to be the savior too much he does not understand, like Jordan, that his team is only as good as the weakest player. Due to the car accident the â€Å"colorblind† painter experienced carbon monoxide poisoning that also contributed to the car accident. â€Å"Mr. I’s life changed completely due to losing his vision from the car accident and know faces sudden life changes, such as him being colored blind† (Sacks, 1995, P.4,5,6). The â€Å"colorblind† painter experiences himself visiting ophthalmologists and neurologists to hypnosis and can’t distinguish different colors for some reason because of his loss of vision. â€Å"The â€Å"colorblind painter† deals with having a hard time seeing colors, such as red and green, or other colors that are different to distinguish colors responding to cones, of the retina† (Sacks, 1995, P.4,5,6). Total color blindness is caused by brain damage and the cerebral achromatopsia that is described more than three centuries, which then remains a rare and important condition. Due to being color blind the â€Å"colorblind painter† experiences many life changes. His paintings that once were brilliantly filled with color know is utterly grey and void of color. His paintings where known to be greyish or black and white colors. The color blind painter was once rich with association, feelings and meanings know looked unfamiliar and meanings to him. Everything seemed overwhelmed to the colorblind painter. His car accident was tragic and seemed to suffer from cerebral achromoatopsia that is described more than three centuries ago, which remained a rare and important condition. Due to being color blind the â€Å"colorblind painter† experiences many life changes. His painting that once was brilliantly filled with color knows is utterly grey and void of color. His attempt made no difference for his eyes and has no difference for his images that he sees. Having no color seemed to make no difference. The images that he saw made no distinguish on what shags and colors was real to Mr. I. How interesting how he only saw shades of grey. He retained what was a verbal memory of color and how he could remember color even from memories, which he knew that he had experienced color. This evidence supports Gerald Edelman’s view on memories that are constructed. His views and characteristics of vison change his memories and how he sees only two colors. His vision is what stopped him from the things that he loved the most, which were wall paintings.
